Position Summary

The LGBTQ+ Program Lead oversees the day-to-day administrative operations of the LGBTQ+ Center, which include but are not limited to: managing budgets and resources; coordinating campus outreach, collaborative programs, and partnerships; delivering student engagement activities; developing learning outcomes and assessing the LGBTQ+ Center’s programs and services: and administrative tasks. This position reports to the Multicultural Services Director.

Position Salary Range: $57,984/year – $78,096/year

The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate’s qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Individuals newly hired to Classified position are placed in a salary range based on the WPEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

About the Department

Multicultural Services (MCS) supports the mission of Bellevue College by providing culturally responsive support and services to students to help them with their curricular and co-curricular success as students providing guidance and support. These services include, but are not limited to, academic support services, cultural programming and community building, information, and resource sharing, connecting students to vital services on campus and in the community. The goal of the department is to promote and sustain strategies that close the equity gap, improve student retention and completion, and assist students with learning self-advocacy skills to navigate and overcome the social, economic, and systemic barriers. MCS works to achieve these goals by offering programs and services, that facilitate the transition to college for multicultural students and support their progress through graduation and or transfer.

Essential Functions

Program management and supervision

• Oversee the daily operations of the LGBTQ+ Center, including being present to engage students in educational conversation, guide critical discourse, and promote an inclusive, welcoming environment.
• Orient LGBTQIA2S+ students to the culture of the institution and provide support services to help students achieve their personal, academic, and professional goals.
• Manage an LGBTQ+ Center budget, including creating and preparing budget S&A (Student Activities) proposals for funding allocations, tracking expenses, and balancing the budget.
• Develop, implement, and manage programs and initiatives that support LGBTQ+ students, staff, and faculty.
• Coordinate programmatic details for the LGBTQ+ Center, including event logistics, contracts, room reservations, catering, media carts (microphones, laptops, sound systems, video services), and other event logistics.
• Hire, onboard, orient, and evaluate the student LGBTQ+ Center Affinity Coordinator.
• Mentor, support, and develop the leadership of the Student LGBTQ+ Center Affinity Coordinator and other students.
• Promote LGBTQ+ Center and events through flyers, listservs, social media, website, and other forums.
• Maintain inventory and order of supplies as needed for LGBTQ+ Center and events.
• Work closely with other campus departments, student organizations, and community.
• Participate in various staff development and professional development opportunities as needed.
• Provide leadership to host Lavender Graduation in collaboration with the LGBTQ+ Taskforce.

Student advocacy and retention

• Conduct outreach to students in the LGBTQIA2S+ community to provide guidance, referrals, and support for LGBTQIA2S+ individuals seeking assistance or resources.
• Serve as a campus resource for issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity, including coming out, health concerns, navigating resources, and identity development.
• Collaborate with LGBTQIA2S+ students, staff, faculty, and community partners to identify and address the specific needs of the LGBTQIA2S+ community.
• Collect and maintain data related to LGBTQIA2S+ program participation and outcomes for evaluation purposes in a manner that protects student privacy.
• Prepare regular reports and assessments of LGBTQIA2S+ programs to evaluate their effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
• Navigate difficult student situations with precision and flexibility including, but not limited to students in crisis, student and faculty conflicts, etc.
• Maintain confidentiality of all student information’in accordance with FERPA laws.’

Student supervision

• Hire, onboard, orient, and evaluate Multicultural Services (MCS) student workers.
• Facilitate weekly student staff meetings, work schedules, review and approve time sheets, and track work-study budget.
• Provide coaching and guidance to student workers.

Departmental support and collaboration

• Develop and nurture partnerships with other departments to fulfill related goals and objectives of the MCS department and represent the LGBTQ+ Center.
• Participate in MCS staff meetings and supervision meetings.
• Conduct inventory supply management and the ordering of materials and supplies necessary for MCS operations and programming.
• Assist with planning related MCS departmental events by collaborating with the team on work goals, engagement activities, and assessments.
• Collaborate with Student Multicultural Center staff to develop annual strategic planning and communications plan.
• Partner with MCS staff to design and implement programs and events that promote student intersectional identity development.
• Assist with quarterly and yearly MCS program evaluation reports as relates to the LGBTQ + Center.
• Represent the college/department at National, State, and regional functions as assigned.
• Build networks and partnerships between students, faculty, staff, administration and community service providers.
• Participate in college committees as assigned.
• Conduct educational workshops, presentations, and other campus outreach as needed.
• Serve as a liaison and collaborate with the LGBTQ+ Taskforce.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in student development, student affairs administration, psychology, gender studies, counseling, education, or a related field. Any combination of relevant education and/or experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
• A minimum of two (2) years of experience working directly with programs or initiatives that support lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, and asexual populations.
• Demonstrated effectiveness working with and fostering a sense of belonging for LGBTQIA2S+ communities.
• Experience in developing, planning, and implementing programs or events to support LGBTQIA2S+ communities.
• Demonstrated understanding of issues that affect LGBTQIA2S+ students in a higher education setting including strategies to retain LGBTQIA2S+ students.
• Understanding of and comfortable using social media and web design platforms and emerging technologies.
• Demonstrated organizational and analytical skills as well as the ability to manage several concurrent tasks.
• Demonstrated effective verbal, written communication, customer service, and time management skill.
• Advanced skills with Microsoft Office suite, Word Press, CANVA and student management software such as PeopleSoft and CRM Target X.
• Demonstrated ability and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in student development, student affairs administration, student engagement, counseling, or a related field.
• Experience collaborating with people with marginalized genders and sexualities through an intersectional lens that includes race, ethnicity, class, and disability.
• Experience supervising student employees
• Budgeting knowledge including tracking expenses, balancing budgets, oversight or budget management experience.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of FERPA (Family Educational Rights Privacy Act) Title IX, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
• Experience in a community college setting.
