Announcing the Stonewall National Monument

“I’m designating the Stonewall National Monument as the newest addition to America’s national parks system. Stonewall will be our first national monument to tell the story of the struggle for LGBT rights. I believe our national parks should reflect the full story of our country – the richness and diversity and uniquely American spirit that has always defined us. That we are stronger together. That out of many, we are one.” – President Barack Obama On June 24, 2016 President Obama designated the site of the Stonewall uprising and birthplace of the modern LGBT civil rights movement the “Stonewall National Monument.” This new monument is a testament to the diversity, inclusiveness, and individual freedom that make America great. Vote on House Floor Over LGBT Rights Turns Ugly

It was a chaotic scene on the House floor Thursday morning after an amendment to help protect LGBT people from discrimination failed by just one vote as Republicans succeeded in convincing a few members of their own party to switch their votes to help ensure the measure would not pass. House Democrats could be heard chanting “shame, shame, shame” on the floor as the measure went from garnering up to 217 votes at one point down to just 212 when the vote was gaveled. Boos erupted from the House floor as the measure failed. Republican leaders kept the vote open longer allowing members to switch their votes. The vote was originally scheduled to only last two minutes but was held open for eight minutes. Spread the LGBT Love

Texas Lt. Gov. Patrick: We’ll Give Up Federal Funds Over LGBT Policy Texas’ lieutenant governor said Friday that the state is prepared to forfeit billions of federal dollars in public school funding in defiance of an Obama administration directive requiring schools to allow transgender students to use bathrooms and locker rooms consistent with their chosen gender identity. The new directive is expected to worsen tensions between Republican-led statehouses and the federal government over divisive social issues. It clarifies expectations for districts receiving federal school funds, which Texas’ powerful Republican lieutenant governor argues the state’s 5.2 million public school students can now do without. “We will not be blackmailed by the president’s 30 pieces of silver,” Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said. “The people of Texas and the Legislature will find a way to find as much of that money as we can if we are forced to.” Patrick said Texas currently… Read more »

Reaction swift to Obama school LGBT bathroom directive

Reaction swift to Obama school LGBT bathroom directive Raleigh, North Carolina (ABC11) — The federal government is issuing a directive to every public school in the nation, telling administrators on what the bathroom policy should be. The Obama Administration says transgender students can use bathrooms and locker rooms based on their gender identity. A lengthy guidance was blasted out to schools Friday morning. In the letter, schools were reminded they must protect “supportive, safe, and nondiscriminatory communities.” Spread the LGBT Love
